Supplement lesson videos for students' daily practice at their home
Due to the resurgent rate of the new COVID variant" Omicron," many students of mine switched to online lessons.
Right now, we are combining both; in-person and online lessons.
I think there are both good sides and not-so-good sides to online lessons.
I was busy but happily have been making lesson supplement videos for my students.
First, I used Youtube for the size of lesson supplement video files were too big, and also, in that way, it was easy for students to watch repeatedly( I hope they do!)
Yes, it shows in Youtube feedback how many times the clip was viewed, and the viewer must be the student who was the recipient of my lesson video. Hahaha.
Benefits; are
1, Students can watch over & over the model example(teacher's) of piano posture, hand positions, how to use wrist, elbows, etc.
2, Students can check to correct the notes and names from my instruction voice.
3, For advanced students, I make videos taken from overhead, from the side, at pedals angle, etc.
So, they can learn how to use the body, how to move, how to move thei hands on the keyboard, etc. Those detail they may not see in person lessons.
I have always been feeling that how to practice at home is the tricky part for students (and some parents), and this lesson supplement video making has been now developing into using a lesson planning app.
I hope using this app will facilitate and motivate their practice every day at home.
However, I use also lesson records(brain map) on paper notepads for students to handwrite the lesson contents, home works, points to remember.
I believe this note-taking by hand writing process is an essential learning tool.
Students have to write what I said in their language and understanding.
I will talk about this in the next blog post.
Here are 3 lesson supplement videos I made.
1, Lesson supplement video for an English speaking student
1、Lesson/ practice supplement video for a Bilingual( English & Japanese) student
3,Lesson/ practice supplement video for a semi Bilingual student
